MustangDriveThruValueLodgeBrownwood Police responded to a one-vehicle accident at the Value Lodge in Brownwood which resulted in a Ford Mustang driving partially into the lobby of the building early Friday morning.

The accident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. at the motel which is located at 410 E. Commerce. According to the report, officers arrived to find the Mustang had come to rest partially inside the motel and the driver standing near the main entrance of the building.  After determining that there were no injuries and no one at that time needing medical help, the officer located the driver, identified as Troy Cox, who stated that his vehicle “suffered from a mechanical issue where the vehicle accelerates on its own,” the report states.

Cox stated that he and a female passenger had just arrived in Brownwood from McKinney. The officer noted a smell of alcohol on Cox’s breath and asked him if he had consumed any alcohol, which he denied, the report states.  After failing several field sobriety tests, Cox was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the report.

Officers interviewed three witnesses who all stated that they saw the Mustang “pull into the parking lot, rev its engine and then floor the gas while swerving over the curb and crashing into the motel building and window,” the report states.  The passenger also stated that Cox had consumed a beer while driving to Brownwood and that he was in an upset state, yelling and verbally attacking her when the accident occurred, the report states.

A warrant was obtained for a blood specimen from Cox, which was collected at Brownwood Regional Medical Center, the officer’s report states.  While the blood sample was being taken, Cox stated that “he has beat this charge before and would have no problem now,” according to the report.

An inventory of the vehicle located a clear plastic baggie of marijuana in the glove compartment of the vehicle as well as an open 25 ounce can of beer next to the driver’s seat, the report states.  The vehicle suffered major damage and was towed from the scene of the accident.

The passenger of the vehicle was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center by ambulance for observation, the report states.
