Brown County emergency responders were called to a pair of unrelated vehicle accidents Wednesday evening, occurring within an hour of each other.

Responders were called to the scene of a three-vehicle accident on Highway 279 near Lake Brownwood which injured six, four of which were transported by ambulance to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:50 PM in the 7600 block of Hwy 279 in front of Corina’s Restaurant.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Travis Hounshell, a Buick passenger car was stationary in the northbound lane of Hwy 279, waiting for a vehicle in front of them to turn left off of the roadway.   The vehicle that was in front of the Buick turned and was not involved in the accident.  A gray Chevy pickup, traveling northbound behind the Buick, apparently saw the vehicles stopped and waiting to turn but was unable to stop.  The pickup traveled into oncoming traffic striking a white Ford pickup head-on, according to Hounshell.  The gray pickup was knocked back into the driver’s side of the Buick as a result of the impact, Hounshell reported.

One passenger of the white Ford pickup had to be extricated according to emergency responders.  Four occupants of the vehicles were transported by ambulance and 2 were transported by privately owned car to the hospital, according to responders.   Although the extent of the accident victims’ injuries was not released at the time of the crash, emergency responders stated that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Lake Bridge Volunteer Fire Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and Guardian EMS responded to the scene of this second accident Wednesday evening.

Prior to this head-on collision, emergency responders were called to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 67 just outside of Bangs, which sent one woman to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of her injuries.

The accident occurred at 5:07 PM Wednesday evening, just east of the intersection of Hwy 67 and County Road 143.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Delgado, the Ford Explorer veered off the road as the driver was distracted by something inside the vehicle.   The Explorer had been traveling west on Hwy 67 and drove into the median toward the eastbound lanes of traffic; however the driver overcorrected and the vehicle flipped onto its side and stopped at the edge of the grassy median.

Occupants included the woman who was transported and two males, one of which was driving the vehicle.  Both males were also injured but refused transport to the hospital, according to responders on scene.

Bangs Police, Bangs Volunteer Fire Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Guardian EMS responded to the accident scene.
