Clayton Carnes

CarnesClayton Carnes, age 75, of (Chapel Hill Rd) Brownwood, passed away peacefully at Songbird Lodge Rehab Center on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at a local nursing home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Barnum officiating, interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Clayton was born on August 9, 1938 to Edward “E.J.” and Lois Irene (Martin) Carnes in Brownwood. He was happily married to Harriett Ruth Cochran for 52 years, who preceded him in February 2012. He was an active member of Grosevenor Baptist Church. He was a Dairyman from 1943 to 1983, and then worked for Phillips Driscoe Pipe until 2012. His greatest joys in life were family, fishing, vacations in Colorado, and working on the family land.

He is survived by his lifetime friend, Carol Jarvis; daughter, Terri Kaye Burross of Brownwood; son, Eddie Carnes and wife Debbie of Cody, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Mike Cochran of Dallas; grandchildren, SPC Jayden Carnes of Clarksville, TN, Casey Carnes and wife Danielle of Brownwood, Amanda Snodgrass and husband Craig of Wichita Falls, Cathy Burross and fiancé Tommy Casillas of Wichita Falls; great-grandchildren, Emily Carnes, Caden Carnes, Cayleigh Carnes, Kendall Snodgrass, Cole Snodgrass, and Marissa Burross; brother, Ben Carnes and wife Nona Gayle; and sister-in-law, Judy Carnes. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Clayton was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Carnes; a daughter, Catherine Alyce Carnes, a brother, A.D. Carnes; and a nephew, B.J. Carnes.

Family and friends are invited to leave online condolences at www.blaylockfuneralhome. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Grosevenor Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
