coldTxDOT crews throughout the Abilene and Brownwood Districts worked through the night to treat roadways and bridges and monitor conditions. Most counties are reporting that conditions remain the same as yesterday, with wet pavement and areas of patchy ice and black ice.

According to the National Weather Service, a significant storm is forecast overnight on Saturday and into Sunday. Adverse conditions are likely throughout a large region.

Drivers are strongly advised to avoid any unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should use extreme caution and be alert for emergency responders and TxDOT workers who are on the roadway responding to incidents. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and remove all distractions to avoid wrecks or becoming involved in a secondary collision.

Freezing rain and freezing drizzle will continue today, occasionally mixing with sleet.  A more significant heavy precipitation event, mainly freezing rain and sleet, is possible Saturday night and Sunday as a strong upper level storm system moves across the area. Some snow is expected to mix with the freezing rain and sleet.

Freezing rain and sleet accumulations are expected to remain less than 1/10 of an inch through Saturday. However, ice and sleet accumulations of 1/2 inch or greater will be possible from Saturday night through the weekend.

Brown County and the surrounding areas are in a Winter Storm Warning through Monday morning.
