Reitha Brannan

BRANNANFuneral services for Reitha Brannan, age 84, of Comanche, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the First Baptist Church of Comanche.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Mrs. Brannan passed from this life on Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Reitha Frances Thomas Brannan was born on July 15, 1929 in Austwell, Texas to Theodore and Lola Belle (Henson) Thomas.  She attended Benavides schools and went on to Howard Payne College where she graduated in the Class of 1949.  She married Roy W. Brannan, Jr. on June 3, 1950 in Wickett and moved to Comanche.  She taught 2nd grade in the Comanche Independent School District for 30 years.

Reitha was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Comanche where she taught the 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class for many years.  She was also involved in the community through her memberships in the Heritage Study Club, the Comanche County Museum, and the Comanche County Retired Teachers Association.

Reitha is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Brannan of Comanche; two sons, William Thomas “Bill” Brannan and wife Carol of Lubbock, and Gary Paul Brannan and wife Janet of Rule; four grandchildren, Sarah Brannan of Lubbock, Monica Brannan of Rule, Jonathan Brannan and wife Amber of Baird, and Brittnee Brannan of Breckenridge; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Judy Brannan of Clifton and Doris Thomas of Ft. Worth, and a nephew Joe Brannan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 1998, and two brothers, Daniel and Roscoe Thomas.

The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Comanche, 407 N. Houston, Comanche, 76442 or to the Comanche County Museum, P.O. Box 22, Comanche, 76442.
