Coggin Elementary fourth graders recently participated in UIL academic competition for the first time and took third place overall.

“Our teachers did a good job on this,” said Coggin Elementary principal Todd Lewis.  “We were just going to practice maybe once a week with these kids, then I told the teachers that if we were going to do this I wanted to have enough practice so our kids could go over and really compete well.”

Coggin competed with schools such as Lampasas and Gatesville.  Teachers who coached teams were recognized by Lewis Monday along with many of the students who participated at the competition, earning top places.  There were over 100 students involved in this competition according to Lewis.

“These kids did a great job.  One of the things you don’t realize is that several of these schools have been doing this since they were in first grade,” explained Lewis.  “This is a great thing for these kids, they worked hard and for just two months of practice, these kids really did a great job.”

Students recognized Monday, their places and subjects are listed below.   Students are pictured above with Lewis.
