The Lady Lions Volleyball team is hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. Tryouts were held last week and 13 girls were selected for the 2012-2013 varsity team. The players started practice last week and worked on their skills through drills and practice games.

Coaches have high expectations for the season and see a lot of potential in the girls this year.

“We expect to go in and compete hard in every match whether we are facing a 1A or 5A school. We want to make a solid run in district and go further in the playoffs,” says Melanie Kunkel, Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Kunkel states that they have several girls returning to the team, along with some promising additions.

“We had five players graduate last year and will be returning 7 players,” says Kunkel. “We are returning three starters and have added some very skilled underclassmen.”

Coaches hope this compilation of players, along with hard work, will lead to a successful season for the Lady Lions.

“We want to make a solid run in district and go further in the playoffs. The team is working hard to be the best they can be and we’re excited to see what the season will bring.”

The Lady Lions will begin their regular season play on Tuesday, August 14th. The freshman, JV, and varsity teams will play in Abilene at Abilene High.

On the 17th and 18th the Varsity team will play in the Bev Ball Classic in Abilene.

August 21st the Lady Lions will play Bangs/Grape Creek in Brownwood, with the varsity only playing a dual match. The freshman and JV teams will play at 5, and the Varsity will play at 6 and 7.

August 24th and 25th, the varsity team will play in Peaster at the Peaster Invitational.

August 25th the freshman team will play in Abilene in the Abilene Tournament.

September 8th the JV team will play in Abilene in the Abilene Tournament.
