At midnight on June 4th, 55 Brownwood High School choir students, parents and chaperones loaded up a charter bus in the Brownwood High School parking lot for the beginning leg of their journey to New York City.  For some in the group, their flight departing from Austin, Texas, would mark their very first time to fly.

Upon arrival, their first stop was just over the Hudson River at Carlo’s Bakery, the famous Hoboken shop featured in the show “Cake Boss” on TLC.  Patricia Garrett and her husband Monte surprised the choir with a cake made with a special announcement (see photo).

Activities of the trip included visiting Ellis Island, singing at the Statue of Liberty, watching live productions of “Wicked” and “Mary Poppins” on Broadway, taking a Broadway classroom clinic led by cast members of the hit musical “Wicked”, tours of Manhattan and Central Park, a moving visit to the 9/11 Ground Zero Memorial and shopping in China Town.

The group returned to Brownwood in the early morning of June 8th.
