commissionercourtarticlepicThree Brown County jailers are being promoted to sergeant this month according to jail administrator Becky Caffey.

Each of the jailers is filling vacated sergeant positions according to Caffey.  Promotions of Joel Florence, Kenneth Wilson and Chester Land to sergeant were approved by commissioners Monday during the regular scheduled Commissioner’s court.   Caffey reported that one of the positions had been vacant for a while and that the other two are promoted at slightly lesser pay amounts than their predecessors resulting in a savings to the county.

Caffey stated the jail count is at 155 inmates, which is slightly down as compared to this time last year.

In other matters on the agenda:

*Commissioners took no action regarding a possible burn ban.  County Judge Ray West stated that the matter would be considered again on the agenda of the next regular meeting, July 2nd.

*Approval was received from commissioners for the annual road report presented by Amy Hamrick.  Hamrick explained that the report will be available to the public after it is presented to the Grand Jury for approval.  The report documents a list of paved and unpaved roads and bridges within Brown County.

*Larry Traweek, Commissioner Precinct 4, received approval for an application for Atmos Energy to install a utility line in the easement along County Roads 134 and 135.  According to Traweek, this will be a replacement of a current gas line, installed by means of a bore underneath the county roads to install the line, according to county specifications.

*Sharon Ferguson received approval for a replacement telephone system for the county clerk’s office.  The 8 phone system will be Samsung DCS 7100 models and will cost $3800.  According to Ferguson the cost will be paid from the county clerk record management fund.

*County Auditor Nina Cox received approval for the District Court Reporter, Cristi Escobar to enter into a rental of a scanner/copier lease agreement.  According to Cox, Escobar is required to send evidence photos to Eastland Court of Appeals by email and needs a scanner to do so.  Currently the office does not have a scanner which can send the quality of images that are required.  A Cannon digital copier with a “super scanner” will be provided through the lease agreement at a cost of $185/month to the county.  According to Cox, the District Court Reporter’s fund does not have the funds required for the remainder of this year; however with using the remaining funds, $650 will be deducted from the general fund to pay for the remainder of 2012.  The 2013 lease will become an item of consideration for the next year’s budget.

*Cox passed on another item on the agenda, approval of 2012 budget amendments, which will be added to the next regular meeting’s agenda, scheduled for July 2nd.
