Elias Rmeili, P.E., has been named as the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Brownwood District Engineer effective May 21, 2012. He will oversee transportation projects on the state highway system for the nine-county district that includes Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Lampasas, McCulloch, Mills, San Saba and Stephens Counties. The district employs a staff of 185.

For the past 15 years, Rmeili has worked in the Brownwood District where he has held the positions of design engineer, director of transportation planning and development and director of operations. Rmeili began his career with TxDOT in 1991 as a transportation engineer with the department’s Design Division in Austin. In 1994, he accepted a position as pavement engineer in TxDOT’s Bryan District, moving to Brownwood as a design engineer in 1996.

Rmeili has worked closely with cities and counties in the Brownwood District on several important transportation projects, such as the Austin Avenue overpass in Brownwood, Key Avenue in Lampasas, Main Street in Comanche, South Bridge Street in Brady, US 180 in Breckenridge, Commerce Street in Eastland, SH 153 in Coleman, and many others.

Previously, Rmeili worked for ERES Consultants, Inc. in Illinois and the Texas Transportation Institute in College Station.

Rmeili received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1982 and 1984 respectively. He was licensed as a professional engineer in Texas in 1992.

He and his wife, Jana, have three daughters, Julie, Ellie and Melissa.  In his free time, he enjoys golfing and hunting.

Rmeili replaces Lynn Passmore who recently retired from the position.

Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree expressed his excitement at the appointment of Rmeili.

“This was an important appointment for the City of Brownwood,” Rountree said by email.  “We have an excellent working relationship with Elias.”
