Brownwood Intermediate School 5th graders have been sharing Christmas cheer with the 301 sailors on board the USS Carter Hall by writing them cards and letters.  The project has been coordinated with the Chaplains Office of the USS Carter Hall and BIS Social Studies teachers.

According to Mrs. Jody Easley, “The Brainy Bunch has had a special lesson on the USS Carter Hall.  The students learned about the ship and its duties.  Some students volunteered to write multiple letters, so that every one on board will receive a Christmas greeting.”

Mrs. Melanie Haynes stated, “The Top Cats students enjoyed making connections with the sailors.  A couple of the students even sent gifts of writing paper, pencils, and supplies to their sailors.”

“The High Five students were very creative with their cards; they enjoyed bring joy and some Christmas fun to the sailors,” said Mrs. Tiffany Baker.

The cards, letters, and gifts are being mailed this week in hopes they will arrive in time for Christmas.
