IMG_0541Brownwood’s upcoming Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center is well on its way to completion.  The bottom and sides of the pool have recently been poured and work continues on the bath house.

“The pool is about 68% complete and the bath house is 65% complete,” said Brownwood’s Parks and Recreation Director David Withers. “Our goal is to have the pool open by June 15th.”

Withers explained that weather will be a big factor in reaching that goal.  The current plan is to keep the old Camp Bowie pool closed until the new facility opens.  Withers said if there is a delay on the opening date of the new aquatic center, the city may open the old pool for a short time as a back-up plan.

The new Family Aquatic Center will feature a leisure pool, slide tower, interactive water geysers, tot slide, coolbrellas, a group shelter, 4 lap lanes, zero entry beach, and a current channel.

Fees for the new aquatic center will be close to the same prices as those of the old pool.   General admission will be $2 for 12 & under; $3 for 13 & over.  Season passes for 12 swims will be $20 for 12 & under and $30 for 13 & over.  Rental of the pavilion will be $35 for 2 hrs, which includes 3 tables and free admission for 1 chaperone.  Rental of pool after hours will be $250 (6:30-8:30 with a $100 deposit and $125/each extra hour with 8 lifeguards required).

Withers said that capacity of the pool is 426 people and will require 8 life guards to be on duty.
