YouthfaircandatidetsBrown County kicked off the week by proclamation of National 4-H Week, but there is much more going on as 4-H week continues.

First off, the candidates for 2010 Miss Brown County Fair Association were announced.  Pictured from left to right are 2009 Miss Brown County Fair Association Stephanie Dodd; Richelle Hair, representing Early FFA, 4-H, and FCCLA; Danielle Denbow, representing Bangs FFA; Courtney Murray, representing Brownwood FFA; and Peyton Pittman, representing May 4-H, FFA, and Brownwood Rabbit Club.

The candidates began selling memberships this week priced at $20.00 per family and the winner will be crowned in January

Also happening this week is 4-H One Day.  On October 10th, Brown County 4-H is having a day of service to the community. Brown County 4-H is challenging members, their fellow 4-H members and non-members to make a difference. An award will be presented to the best digital photo and short project description emailed to [email protected] by Oct. 21st.  The project can be as simple as picking up trash or mowing a yard for a person who is homebound. Visit the 4-H One Day website for more project ideas for your 4-H club: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/oneday

Also Validation for Sheep and Goats is Saturday. October 24th at the Youth Fair Barns. Sheep Validation is from 8a.m. to 10a.m. and Goat Validation is from 11a.m. to 2p.m. Validation for Swine will be held at the Youth Fair Barns Saturday, November 7th at 8a.m.

Also the 4-H Food Show is open to all 4-H members and has an entry deadline of October 16th and entry forms are available at the County Extension Office. The Food Show provides for educational and personal development and recognizes youth who excel in the 4-H Food and Nutrition program. Four entry categories allow for presentation of a variety of foods in the Food Show. The categories also provide an opportunity for contestants to exhibit a variety of food presentation principles. In the Food Show Contest 4-H members will prepare a simple dish to fit one of four categories; Main Dish, Fruit and Vegetable, Bread and Cereal, and Nutritious Snacks. Exhibitors will be judged on Dish Presentation, Interview, and Knowledge My-Pyramid. Food Show will be on Sunday, October 25, 2:00p.m. at the Ext. Office.
