Saturday night at about 10:31pm Brownwood police officer Brandon Arnold was dispatched to the intersection of Avenue W and Austin Avenue regarding a one vehicle accident.

In a police report, Arnold states that upon arrival to the scene he saw individuals standing around a vehicle in a yard on the east side of Austin Ave.

Witnesses on site said that the driver of the vehicle was driving east on Avenue W towards Austin Ave at a high rate of speed.  The report says that witnesses indicate that the vehicle crashed through a barricade at the intersection crossing Austin Ave and came to rest where it was sitting causing damage to the vehicle.  Witnesses said that the driver never attempted to slow down and officer Arnold noted no evidence of skid marks were visible and there was significant damage to the vehicle.

The driver identified as 31 year old Michael Christopher of May sustained injuries as a result of the accident.  Officer Arnold’s report also states that Christopher had difficulty maintaining his balance while walking or standing and smelled of alcohol.

The driver was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for evaluation, but refused to be evaluated upon arrival.

Arnold’s report notes that Christopher’s speech was slurred and was still having trouble walking or standing.  He was arrested at that time for DWI and taken to Brown County Jail and became uncooperative upon arrival.
