Sunday night a thunderstorm moved through Brown County bringing some rain and an abundance of lighting driving one family from their home.

The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a house fire Sunday night at approximately 10:20pm.  Fire officials said that lightning from the passing storm started the blaze.

An elderly couple was home in bed at the time, but their smoke alarms sounded waking them up.  The couple escaped the home located at 1206 Campa uninjured as a result..

One firefighter on the scene helping put out the fire was hurt with a hyper extended knee.  He was taken to the hospital by Guardian EMS and was treated with a leg splint and released.

Firefighters were at the fire until 1:30am Monday morning tending to the home and fire.
