Students from Woodland Heights Elementary Thursday afternoon experienced the final round of artist demonstrations during the 28th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.
Demonstrations were provided by Melanie Howell with acrylic on canvas; Paula Vaughn, with pastels; and Phillip Tester, with wood carving techniques, this year’s Dorothy Mayes Best of Show award for his work entitled ‘Blessings.’
Coming up Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. artists from across the state are invited to show their skills at the annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit’s annual Paint-Off. The Paint-Off is a contest between artists who accept the challenge to create and complete a painting in just six hours. Awards consist of $500 for 1st place and $250 for 2nd place. An entry fee of $20 will include a light lunch. The Paint-Off is open to all Texas residents 18 years of age and older.
Registration will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday (in person only), prior to the start of the event. Painting will begin at 10 a.m., after artists are registered and their painting surfaces are inspected and stamped. Artists must supply their own easels, materials/supplies, and must keep their equipment compact.
