Mullin ISD students were on hand Thursday morning at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center for the first session of artist demonstrations during the 28th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.
Phillip Tester, who won this year’s Dorothy Mayes Best of Show award for his work entitled ‘Blessings,’ provided a wood carving technique demonstration while June Musick, with stabilo pencils, and Natale Radle, with spill art, also shared their knowledge.
The demonstrations run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day they are scheduled.
Prior to Thursday’s demonstrations, Mullin students toured the exhibit and provided their teachers with their picks for favorite work of art on display.
Future demonstrations include the Tuesday, Feb. 17 trio of Christine Brixley with palette knife painting, Darrin St. Ama with iron and metal works, and Stephanie Cox with paper leatherizing techniques. Then on Thursday, Feb. 19, Melanie Howell with acrylic on canvas, Paula Vaughn with pastels, and Tester again with wood carving techniques, will be on hand.
Coming up Saturday, Feb. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit will host its Family Day Event. Activities will include storytelling from the Brownwood Lyric Theatre Players, art giveaways, live art demonstrations, make and take art stations, gallery hunts and more.
