
In their final tune-up prior to district competition, the Brownwood Lions captured the team championship, while the Brownwood Lady Lions finished second in the girls draw at the Bluebonnet Invitational golf tournament at the Brownwood Country Club Tuesday.
After a 90-minute delay due to an overnight freeze, the Lions went on to card a 323 team score, led by the second-place effort of Layton Kemp, with a round of 78, and the third-place performance of Peyton Sharp, with an 80. Ryker Calvert chipped in an 82 along with an 83 from Will Stewardson and a 91 from Sheriff Jones.
In girls action, the Lady Lions tallied a 464 composite score which trailed only the 418 of Graham. Competing for the Lady Lions were Geyer Stewardson, who came in third place with a round of 107, along with Jacie Camp and Aubrey Neel with 118s, and Alyssa Altstatt and Avery Villegas with 121s.
A second Brownwood Lions team took part in Tuesday’s action as well and finished with a 366 score for the squad, which was good for fifth place. Judson Coalson led the charge with an 82 followed by Grant Gray with an 87, Carson Noe with a 97, Bennett Windham with a 100 and Elijah Waldrop with a 101.
Medalist golfers for the Lions Tuesday included Ben Arno and Sirr Beam, each with a 100, Brinson Martin and Jacob Orton, both with 103s, and Andrew Roberts with a 105.
The next tournament for the Lions and Lady Lions is the District 6-4A championship March 30-31 at Live Oak Golf Course in Abilene.
