After opening their own tournament, and the baseball season, with a 10-6 victory over Perryton Thursday, the Brownwood Lions weren’t as fortunate Friday as they suffered a pair of shutout losses to Canyon West Plains, 9-0, and Gatesville, 19-0.

On the mound, the combination of Shaxton Simpson, Riggs Gray and Cannon Calvert yielded seven earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and eight walks. Defensively, the Lions were credited with two errors.
Against Gatesville, Brownwood mustered only a pair of hits – another single from Wolf, as well as one from Garrett Wilkerson.
The pitching trio of Harrison Sweaney, Rhett Lowe and Calvert gave up a total of nine earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and nine walks. The Brownwood defense also committed five errors behind them.
Brownwood (1-2) will attempt to rebound as it concludes tournament action at 5 p.m. Saturday against Midland Greenwood.
