EARLY – The Early Lady Horns volleyball team continued to inch closer to a playoff berth as they completed a District 8-3A sweep of the rival Breckenridge Lady Buckaroos, 25-10, 25-22, 25-12 Tuesday night.
“We still have a couple of tough games ahead of us and we take things one game at a time, but we’re going to keep trucking,” Early head coach Missy Vaughn said of the Lady Horns nearing a trip to the postseason. “Tonight, the first set the girls came out and played well. The second set we were out of our routine a little bit and didn’t play our best. The third set was better, but we still have to work on some things from the second and third sets. We still need to work on our consistency.”
Coming off Friday’s four-set victory over Comanche, which created a tie for second place in the 8-3A standings, the Lady Horns received 12 kills each from Jensyn Rasor and Aubrie DeVillier, nine from Ellie Shea, two from Cassidy Frerichs, and one each from Grey Pruett and Kailyn Gallardo.
Pruett finished with 25 assists while Frerichs chipped in a pair, and Rasor served seven aces followed by Jaime Lyon with two and Pruett, Gallardo and DeVillier with one each.
Defensively, DeVillier recorded 13 digs followed by Pruett with 12, Lyon with seven, Gabby Benson with six, Frerichs with four, Rasor with three, and Gallardo with one.
At the net, Rasor chalked up three blocks and Pruett, Frerichs and Shea each tallied one.
Reflecting on finally getting over the hump against Comanche in their previous outing, Vaughn said, “That was big. It was great competition, the girls came out with the right mindset and played hard.”
The Lady Horns (26-6, 8-3) are back in action a 4 p.m. Friday as they venture to Eastland.
