
The Brownwood High tennis team’s two-match win streak was halted by Class 5A Abilene Cooper, 18-1, Thursday in non-district action at the BHS courts.
Ian Cervantes (8-6 over Kaden McCartney) claimed the lone win for Brownwood (3-5, 1-0) Thursday in the No. 6 boys singles position.
“Cooper is a tough 5A program that plays in a tough district, but our kids enjoyed the challenge,” said Brownwood High tennis coach Dalton Hutchins.
The Lions and Lady Lions are back in action at 8 a.m. Saturday in Mason with neutral sites matches against Fredericksburg and Kerrville Tivy.
Also competing for Brownwood Thursday were boys singles players No. 1 Blake Hutchins, No. 2 Eric Smith, No. 3 Trine Baugh, No. 4 Aiden Oplotnik, and No. 5 Cooper Morgan.
In girls singles action, Lady Lion competitors included No. 1 Ashlyn Bundick, No. 2 Kirra Neff, No. 3 Jami Patterson, No. 4 Gigi Rodriguez, No. 5 Emory May, and No. 6 Arely Carrere.
Comprising the doubles teams for the Lions were No. 1 Baugh and Smith, No. 2 Oplotnik and Cervantes, and No. 3 Morgan and Caden Adkins.
The Lady Lions double duos consisted of No. 1 Neff and Patterson, No. 2 May and Rodriguez and No. 3 Carrere and Day.
The mixed doubles team for Brownwood Thursday was made up of Smith and Bundick.
