“I thought the guys flew around and took care of business today,” said Brookesmith first-year head coach Blake Hood. “It was nice coming out here and doing what we needed to do after the loss to Gorman last week. This was a good week for us to come out here and do our jobs, take care of business and get the win. Overall this just builds more confidence for us.”
For Brookesmith, Addy Heard rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns of 42, 7, and 36 yards; Jace Julien ran for 16 yards and a touchdown and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Austin Loyd, who finished with 48 yards passing and added 35 yards on the ground with scores from 3 and 20 yards out.
Blake Loyd finished with 9 yards rushing and a 2-yard touchdown, Aryn Ribble scored on a 6-yard carry, and Brody Isbell added a 5-yard touchdown run. Skylar Manous also rushed for 24 yards, and Robert Eachus grabbed a 25-yard reception.
Defensively, Austin Loyd intercepted a pair of passes while Heard and Blake Loyd recovered fumbles for Brookesmith.
Next week, the Mustangs host Paint Rock (2-1) – which defeated Olfen, 60-14, Friday night – for homecoming.
Reflecting on the start of the season and looking ahead to the future, Hood said, “We have a lot of potential. Yes we are young, we have a lot of young kids that lack a lot of reps, but it seems like each week we are getting better and better, so I’m excited for the future.”
