
Down by four runs after two innings, and a pair of runs in their final at-bat, the Blue All-Stars rallied twice to knock off the Red for a 9-8 walk-off victory in the Big Country FCA All-Star Softball Game Thursday night at Lady Lion Field in Brownwood.
The format of the game was nine innings and featured a three-run limit in each half inning, as the Blue squad trailed 8-6 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
There, Brownwood’s Jeniffer Romero led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by Snyder’s Tayla Jamison to close the gap to 8-7. Base hits by Early’s Marissa Reedy and Graham’s Zoey Harrell followed to create an 8-all tie, then Comanche’s Jaclyn Pate delivered the game-winning RBI single up the middle that brought home Harrell.
Trailing 5-1, the Blue grabbed its first lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh as Reedy reached on a single and Harrell came through with the go-ahead RBI base hit.
The Red team scored two runs each in the first and second innings for an early 2-1 edge. Bangs’ Abby Wolf started the scoring for the Red with an RBI single in the first inning, while an error brought home in the second run. In the second, Breckenridge’s Joni Jackson produced to a two-RBI single for the three-run cushion.
Wolf, the Red pitcher, allowed just one run in the first two innings to the Blue team, that coming on Reedy’s RBI triple in the bottom of the first.
Comanche’s Pate was named the MVP as the Blue All-Stars featured Early’s Kelbie Case as one of the coaches, while Brownwood’s Chloe Walls, Bangs’ Julianna Ethridge and Goldthwaite’s Mylee Guthrie were also members of the roster.
