AUSTIN – Bangs Lady Dragon Kasey Solis wrote her name in the UIL Track and Field State Championships record book Friday as she earned a pair of medals in Class 2A girls field events at the University of Texas’ Myers Stadium.
Solis captured a silver medal in dramatic fashion in the 2A girls triple jump with a best effort of 37-0.25 on the last of her six attempts. Prior to her final jump, Solis was sitting in fifth place with a best distance of 36-2.5.
Solis trailed only state champion Jamiah Birmingham of Linden-Kildare (37-7.75). Ashytn Burris of Smyer (36-8) was the bronze medalist and Kyla Lumpkins of Junction (36-6.5) was bumped off the medal stand by Solis.
Solis started her day at the state track meet with a bronze medal effort in the 2A girls long jump, leaping 17-9.5. Solis’ best performance in this event was her third jump, though half of six attempts all cleared 17-9.
The only competitors to place ahead of Solis were state champion Jayla Lee of Bosqueville (18-10.75) and runner-up Jazmyn Howard of Refugio (18-1.75).
Solis’ performances pushed Brown County’s medal count to six thus far, joining two gold and two silver medals earned by the Class 4A state champion Brownwood Lady Lions Thursday.
