Brownwood News – An online fundraiser has been posted to help a Brownwood paramedic injured after a vehicle struck an ambulance earlier this year. Richard “Stephen” Sharp, 33 years old of Brownwood, was working his shift as a paramedic when the accident occurred on February 18th.

According to the description posted on the fundraiser page, Sharp had just dropped off a patient at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room, when a vehicle ran a stop sign, hitting the ambulance. As a result, his humerus bone (arm from shoulder to elbow) was fractured into three pieces. Sharp has had surgery to repair his arm, in which a metal plate and 29 screws were used to reattach two of the pieces back together. The surgeon was unable to reattach the third piece at the time.
Sharp is currently recovering from the surgery, as well as awaiting tests due to a possible shoulder and back injury. He is also experiencing numbness in his legs.
“This ordeal has been physically excruciating for him, and he has been told it could be up to a year before he can return to work as a paramedic. This fundraiser, and any donations made will help with living expenses (utilities, etc), and travel expenses while he is recovering,” said his sister, Amanda Sharp, who had organized the fundraiser. “We are also asking for prayers for him, as we believe God for a complete healing in Stephens body.”
Stephen Sharp is the father of five children ranging from 5 to 12 years old. Any size donation is appreciated beyond words. Sharp graduated from Brownwood High School in 2000, and graduated from TSTC in Brownwood with an Associates of Applied Science. He is currently the Assistant Operations Supervisor and a Paramedic at Life Guard Ambulance Service in Brownwood.
“He has served Brownwood and the surrounding communities for his entire adult life. He has dedicated himself to helping others and serving this area, and this is a great opportunity for our community to thank him for all he has given,” his sister Amanda added.
