Scholarships and Awards Presented at BHS Band Concert

2013ScholarshipsBrownwood High School Concert Band performed their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 1st and presented awards and scholarships to some outgoing seniors.

Natalie Mayo, Karissa Means and Brock Allen were awarded the Phillip Trowbridge Band Scholarship in the amount of $500 each.  Band booster president Rita Dodson presented the scholarships and stated that each year two scholarships are typically awarded, but this year the three applicants were all so deserving the boosters expanded the number to three.

Karissa Means received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and Brock Allen was presented the John Phillips Sousa Award.

Pictured above are (left to right) Karissa Means, Natalie Mayo, and Brock Allen as they received their scholarships.  Below is a video of one of the songs, entitled Foundry, played at the concert.

Other pieces performed included The Olympic Spirit arrangement by Jay Bocook, Dona Nobis Pacem by James Sudduth, Space and Beyond arranged by John Moss, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band arrangement by John Edmondson, Old Scottish Melody (Auld Lang Syne) by Charles Wiley, and True Blue March by King/arrangement by James Swearingen.
