The City of Brownwood held a dedication ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the opening of the all new Bert V. Massey II Sports Complex off of Milam Drive.

City officials, local dignitaries, and numerous business people gathered to not only celebrate the opening of the new baseball fields, but to pay tribute to their namesake, former Brownwood Mayor Bert Massey.

City Manager Bobby Rountree recognized countless individuals and organizations that helped make these new ball fields a reality.

“It has really been unusual for me to see the number of people that have been involved in making this particular facility come to fruition,” Rountree said.

The city manager thanks the following for their contributions to the project.

  • Brownwood City Council
  • Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
  • City Employees
  • The Fain Group (General Contractors)
  • Citizens for Improvement of Quality of Life
  • The League Presidents
  • Brownwood Economic Development Corporation
  • Brownwood Industrial Foundation
  • Texas Park & Wildlife Department
  • Major League Tomorrow Fund
  • LCRA
  • Texas National Guard
  • T R Havens Unit

The highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of a new sign on the corner of Milam Drive and Dickman Drive featuring the name of the new complex that honors the former mayor.

“The children of Brownwood and their parents have already enjoyed and will continue to enjoy this fine facility,” Massey said. “The great honor of my life was to serve the citizens of Brownwood.”

A ribbon cutting was held to officially dedicate the facility.

See the video below of the dedication ceremony and the unveiling of the new sign.
