Frances Tyson

Tyson_FrancesFuneral Services for Frances Evans Tyson, age 90, of Brownwood, formerly of Cross Plains, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Cross Plains First Baptist Church with Ronnie White officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Mrs. Tyson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in Brownwood.

Mrs. Tyson was born on June 19, 1920, in Brownwood, Texas, to Henry L. Evans Sr. and Josephine Toressa King Evans.  She married Lindsey Tyson on June 30, 1951 in Brownwood. Mrs. Tyson graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor’s degree and then received her Master’s degree from Hardin Simmons University. She was a public school teacher in Brownwood and Cross Plains for 35 years. Mrs. Tyson was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a long time member of Cross Plains First Baptist Church where she played piano and taught children’s Sunday school.

Mrs. Tyson is survived by a niece, Mrs. William (Betty Ann) Young of Austin; a nephew, Joe Doyle Evans and wife Donna of Bangs; three great nieces; one great nephew; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Tyson and her brother, Henry L. Evans Jr.

The family would like to thank Oak Ridge Manor for their wonderful love and care of Mrs. Tyson the last five years of her life.

The family requests that memorials be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Cross Plains.
