Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes issued a Proclamation from the City of Brownwood on Wednesday at the Brownwood Health Department to recognize Infant Immunization Awareness Week for April 23rd -30th.

This special occasion kicks off a week of events that the Health Department will be hosting beginning with free immunizations for babies thru 12 months that are not up to date, and will be giving away free diapers and other gifts to parents who bring in an up-to-date shot record.  The week will end with a Health Fair on Saturday the 30th from 10:00 to 2:00pm.  The Fire Department will also be on hand to check car seats and display a fire engine.  The Emergency Preparedness Department along with WIC will have information available as well.

Haynes encourages public and private health care professionals, parents, and children’s caregivers in Brown County to protect the health of children by ensuring early and on-time immunizations against vaccine preventable childhood diseases.

“Immunizations are particularly important to the community that we have these things to protect the community at large,” said Haynes.  “People don’t realize how many diseases have been nearly eliminated because of immunizations.”

For more information, contact the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department at 325-646-0554 or visit their location at 510 E. Lee in Brownwood.
