Early Police Chief David Mercer reported a five car accident near Heartland Mall in the 300 block of Early Blvd in Early on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 4:16pm on March 17th, Early Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident with several injuries reported.  Early Fire Department and Guardian EMS also responded.  The accident involved 5 vehicles.  Six people were transported to Brownwood Regional ER by Guardian while 3 others refused treatment.

Mercer said that the investigation revealed that a silver 2005 Dodge Magnum had been traveling west on Early Blvd at a high rate of speed. In the 900 block of Early Blvd, near the Early Church of Christ, the Magnum struck a small yellow car and continued west bound.

When the vehicle entered the 300 block of Early Blvd, traffic was stopped for a red light when the Magnum struck a white Pontiac Vibe in the rear causing that vehicle to strike a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado which then struck a Ford Explorer. The Magnum then traveled over 100 feet into the intersection of Highway 183 north and Early Blvd where it stopped.

The driver of the Magnum, identified as 36-year-old Cynthia Delores Marshal of Abilene, was arrested at Brownwood Regional Medical Center outside of the emergency room after she checked out of the ER against medical advice.

Marshal was taken back into the ER for a blood sample and then taken to the Brown County Jail on charges of Driving While Intoxicated.  All injuries were non-life threatening.
