Military and Family Support volunteers and members helped to relocate the “Wall of Heroes” at the Brown County Courthouse Thursday afternoon.

The Wall of Heroes was originally positioned in the front hallway of the courthouse to be seen as people came into the building.  With security measures of a guard station and metal detector being added to that hallway, it obstructed the view of these military that were featured on the wall.

Patta Blake, Diane Elkin, Dianne Day and Joyce Leidig volunteered some time to hang pictures of actively serving military men and women on the new “Wall of Heroes” now located in the east hallway of the courthouse outside the Brown County Commissioners Court.  These pictured are labeled by name, rank, who submitted the photo, and for some, where they are deployed.

Blake has a grandson, Sgt. Gary Blake, who is in the Army and niece that is in the Army National Guard in Oklahoma.  Sgt. Blake is currently stationed in Germany but will soon deploy to Afghanistan as will his cousin.

Elkin has two sons who have served in Iraq.  Lt. Russ Elkin, the oldest is in the Navy and SPC Maury Elkin is in the Texas Air National Guard.  Lt. Elkin is scheduled to deploy again in March.

The Wall of Heroes is not just to honor Brown County military, anyone interested in honoring an active military man or woman may contact Military and Family Support by calling Joyce Leidig at 325-784-5014 or by emailing [email protected].  Pictures of active duty Military can be emailed with their name, rank and branch of service.  Pictures may also be taken to to the County Clerk’s office where an information form can be completed.  The picture will be scanned and returned.
