Local Students Win VFW Essay Contests

VFWLogoThe Heart of Texas VFW Post 3278 and Ladies Auxiliary are proud to announce the winners of the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contests.

Voice of Democracy is an essay and audio contest for students in the 9th through 12th grades.  The theme this year was “Does my generation have a role in America’s future”? There were 19 entries from Brown County, all from Early High School.

The first place winner is Christina Salmon; second place winner is Cullen Tidwell; and third place winner is Jayden Stewart.  Christina Salmon’s essay was forwarded to District 8 where she placed 3rd.

The Patriot’s Pen essay contest is for 6th through 8th graders – the theme this year was “Does Patriotism still Matter”?  There were 17 entries from Brownwood and Zephyr.  The winner was Vivianna Delgado of Brownwood.

The next opportunity for scholarship money is the Patriotic Art Award.  This is for 9th through 12th grade students.  Information on this Award can be found at www.ladiesauxvfw.org.  The deadline for this contest is March 31, 2011.  For further information contact Cheryl Campbell at 325-642-9144.
