Jesus “Jessie” Bernal, 67 (Brownwood)

Jesus “Jessie” Bernal, age 67, of Brownwood passed away early Thursday morning, May 14, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.

Due to the current social gathering guidelines regarding the Covid-19, Jessie will lie in state for family and friends Saturday, May 16th  from 1 to 5 p.m., observing the number of visitors to be limited to 10 at any given time at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Jessie will be laid to rest Sunday at Eastlawn Memorial Park with a private family graveside service with Bill Slaymaker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Jessie was born on September 23, 1952, to David and Maria de Jesus Bernal in Midland. He was a longtime resident of Brownwood. Jessie married Yolanda Cardenas Bernal on September 1, 1971, in Brownwood. From this marriage they were blessed with five children, Albert, JoAnn, Jessica, Javier, and Juan.

He worked for J Bob’s Body Shop for a number of years. Jessie enjoyed doing bodywork on cars in his garage when he wasn’t working. He also loved the farm life and taking care of his horses.  Most of all, he loved being with his wife, kids, and especially his grandkids.

Jessie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yolanda Bernal of Brownwood; children, Albert and Sara Bernal of Blanket, JoAnn and Jorge Martinez of Brownwood, Jessica and Sabino Alvarado of Bangs, J.B. and Trista Bernal of Brownwood, Juan and Melissa Bernal of Brownwood; and 16 grandchildren, Jayme, Alex, Chuy, Jennifer, Adrian, Marianna, Hunter, Ibis, Junior, Alma, Alena, Ethan, Félix, Leonardo, Joseph, and Gianna. He is also survived by numerous brothers, sister, other family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 grandson, Jesus Andres Bernal.
