Brownwood News – Brownwood Police on Tuesday morning at 11:30 were dispatched to the 4200 block of 4th street to a report of a domestic disturbance.
According to the police report, officers observed obvious signs of a physical confrontation between a male and female, the couple said to have been arguing for several days.
Police say the argument became physical when the man threw a foot long bookshelf at the woman, hitting her in the back of the head and neck.
Benjamin Ward Smith, 40, of Brownwood was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence Assault. When a criminal history check revealed a previous arrest for the same offense within a 12-month time frame, Smith was charged with Continuous Violence Against the Family.
According to jail records, Smith was still in jail as of Thursday morning on a $10,000 bond.
Those arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
