Brownwood News – On April 2, 2020, the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department confirmed the fourth case of COVID-19 in Brown County.

The fourth confirmed person is a woman in her 40’s who is currently in quarantine. The individual had no reported international travel or known exposure. She did not travel outside the county before becoming symptomatic. The woman was working at Brookshire’s at 1400 Austin Ave. but has not been to work since March 30.

Brownwood/Brown County Health Department is recommending that anyone who visited Brookshire’s on March 28, 29, and 30 to self-isolate and monitor their symptoms for 14 days.

If they have symptoms (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath) they should call their primary care physician and notify them that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Brookshire’s is voluntary closing immediately and is bringing in a third-party professional cleaning company to thoroughly clean and sanitize the store. According to Brookshire’s, the store will reopen when they are confident that any potential exposure has been eliminated.

One of our greatest risks for the spread of COVID-19 is in crowded, public places. The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department recommends the following measures to limit the number of people in stores. Please do not make shopping a family outing. Make every effort to have only one member per household do the shopping. Do not allow stores to become social gathering places. Complete your shopping quickly. Many stores are reserving the first few hours for senior citizens and immune-compromised individuals. Please do not shop during this time period, unless you belong to one of these groups. If you have any signs of COVID-19, stay home.
