Brownwood News – The Brownwood High School (BHS) Choir competed in UIL Vocal Solo and Ensemble on February 8 in Stephenville.

The BHS Choir students received 14 first place medals for class one solos, eight first-place medals for class two solos, and two first-place medals for two ensembles.

The students who received first place in a class one solo and ensemble will be attending the state competition.

“The competition went well, especially for our newer students, it helped build confidence,” said Jennifer Reeves, choir director at BHS.

At the beginning of the semester, the students select a piece of music and begin preparing it. They practice during school, but primarily on their own.

“It was worth all the practice for them to come home with so much success,” said Taylor Davis, a student-teacher from Howard Payne University.

Many of the students who are attending the state competition will be attending a university to pursue music.

BHS Choir student, Jordan Roberts, is a senior who plans to further her music career. Roberts received first place in a class one solo, and she will be attending the State UIL competition.

“It’s an awesome feeling after working so hard on a piece to be able to get a reward for time and effort,” she said. Roberts plans to attend a university to pursue choral and musical theatre.

As the excitement from this competition settles, the BHS choir students are focusing on their upcoming UIL Concert and Sight-Reading competition on March 31.
