Olena Hellums Ezzell, 94 (Rising Star)

Olena Hellums Ezzell, 94, of Rising Star, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in Rising Star, Texas surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Rising Star, Texas with Terry Jackson officiating and Shannon Dudley assisting. Burial will follow at Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas.

The family will have a time of visitation Friday, February 15 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains, Texas.

Olena was born February 24, 1925 in Henderson County, Texas to the Late Ben Pruitt Hellums and Beatrice Archer Hellums. Olena married Richard Thomas Ezzell in Rising Star, Texas on May 10, 1942, who preceded her on May 24, 1984. Olena has lived and been a member of the Rising Star community since 1934, she has spent many of those years farming and ranching. She is a member of the Church of Christ. Olena was loved dearly by those who knew her and will be deeply missed.

Olena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Richard Thomas Ezzell; daughter, Anna Ezzell; parents, Ben Pruitt Hellums and Beatrice Archer Hellums; 6 sisters, Cassie Allen, Georgia Walker, Maurice Martin, Pauline Parsons, LaFonda Ghormley, Uva Jones; 1 brother, Nathan Hellums.

Olena is survived by her 2 daughters, Linda Worley of Hewitt; Janet Murphree of Sidney; 4 sons, R. T. “Skip” Ezzell of Renden; Willie Ezzell of Rising Star; Benny Ezzell of Owens; Bryan Ezzell of Rising Star; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial may be made to the Rising Star Fire Department, 127 N Main St, Rising Star, TX 76471 and Cherokee Children’s Home, 13355 TX-16, Cherokee, TX 76832.
