Brownwood News – A Brady, Texas Police Officer, was arrested and charged with Official Oppression in connection to an alleged off-duty incident on the evening of January 1, 2020.

According to a press release put out by the Brady Police Department on Monday afternoon, at approximately 3:00 pm on Friday afternoon (01/10/20), Brady Police were contacted by the Brownwood Police Department and made aware of an active arrest warrant that had just been issued for Brady Police Officer Joshua Carlock, officially charging him with the offense of Official Oppression, a Class A Misdemeanor.

This warrant stems from their investigation of an off-duty incident involving Carlock while he was returning home to Brownwood from work on the evening of January 1st, 2020.

The press release goes on to say that, as a result of this arrest order, Carlock was immediately placed on Administrative Leave with Pay and was ordered to turn himself into the Brown County Jail for the booking and arraignment process. Carlock was able to post bond (set at $2,500.00) and was subsequently released.

According to information obtained from the Brownwood Police Department:

On January 1, 2020, at approximately 7:10 pm officers were dispatched to a disorderly conduct in the 1100 block of San Benito.

When officers arrived, they met with witnesses to the event.  These citizens explained that they were driving to their residence in this area and observed a white male walk from a residence, into the street, and stop a passing vehicle.  The male appeared to pull out a gun and point it at the occupants of the vehicle.  The citizens watched as the male suspect yelled at the motorist; cursing at them and yelling at them to slow down.

While speaking with the witnesses, they observed the victim vehicle returning to this area and stopping at a residence.  The officers approached them and confirmed the information provided.

At the same time, a Brownwood police officer on the southside of town was contacted by a white male who identified himself as a police officer from Brady, Texas.  The male was identified as 33 year-old Joshua Carlock of Brownwood.  Carlock explained his involvement in the incident and identified the weapon he used as a ‘pepper-ball gun’.  A report was generated.

The Criminal Investigations Division followed up on the information and secured a warrant for Carlock’s arrest on January 10, 2020 for Official Oppression.  Carlock turned himself in to the Brown County Jail that same day and the warrant was served.

Those charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
