HunterWaldrumMultiple learning activities and experiences are happening all over Brownwood Intermediate School.  The following with pictures is a glimpse into the busy classrooms.

The 6th grade Dream Team has been reading The Indian in the Cupboard this semester.  Students were given an Iroquois Longhouse project at the beginning of the first six weeks, which they had to create from items around their house and outside.  A great deal of effort went into each project, and the students did a great job.  The Longhouses are on display in the library.  (Photos contributed, pictured to left: Hunter Waldrum)

Brownwood Intermediate School held a Robotics Camp on Saturday, September 25th, for fifth and sixth graders.  The Saturday Robotics Camp gave students the opportunity to work on their robots and learn how to use the programming software. Robotic teams continue to meet twice a week and are gearing up for their first competition on November 8th in San Angelo.

MooreRobotsRobotics competitions are designed to challenge students to think creatively and cooperatively.  For an arena competition, students work together in teams to design, build and program a robot to meet a task assigned.  For the inventions competition, teams design original robots which are used to solve a problem.

The robotics teams are coached by BIS faculty and staff:  Christine Moore, Carol Gilbreth, Tiffany Baker and Alysbelle Shero.

The Brownwood Intermediate 6th grade Solid Gold Stars kicked off their unit on Mexico by creating “God’s Eyes.” Students learned that these were symbols of protection used by Indians in ancient Mexico. This tradition has continued until today.  All the team teachers were on hand to help the students wrap yarn and create the colorful display.  The artwork is displayed in the hallway.

Brownwood Intermediate’s 5th grade students learned art techniques by decorating pumpkins, which are now on display in the library.

The 6th grade choir performed October 8th, at the BIS First Six Weeks Awards Assembly, under the direction of Mrs. Reeves.
