Maria Casillas Rodriguez, 93 (Coleman)

Maria Casillas Rodriguez, age 93, of Coleman, died Friday, December 27, 2019 at Coleman County Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Recital of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 303 E. College Ave, in Coleman.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

Maria was born May 25, 1926 in Bridgeport, Texas to Gregorio Casillas and Guadalupe De Luna Casillas.  She grew up in Benjamin.  Maria married Martias “Ricky” Rodriguez on December 24, 1955 in Knox City, Texas.  They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.  Mary was a superb seamstress at Mary’s Fashion in Hobbs, New Mexico.  Her most important job was being a stay at home mother raising and caring for her home and children.  Maria was a member of the Altar Society in Hobbs, New Mexico, the Guadalupanas in Coleman, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Most of all, Maria loved her family.  Her most cherished times were spent loving on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She leaves behind an amazing legacy for all of them.

Maria is preceded in death by six brothers, Salomon Casillas, Jose Casillas, Frank Casillas, Jessie Casillas, Simon Casillas, Manuel Casillas; and one sister, Margarita Guerra.

She is survived by her husband, Martias “Ricky” Rodriguez of Coleman; three children, Rita Savala and husband George of Odessa, Martha Lopez and husband Jimmy of Hobbs, New Mexico, Becky Slayton and husband Kemp of Coleman; four grandchildren, Chelsey and husband Tye Flippin, Marsha and Kacee Travis,  Jeremiah and Jenny Lopez, Keagan and Colton Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Grayson Dempsey, Mason Flippin, Miah Lopez, Mason Lopez, Macy Lopez, Brayzie Villanueva, Khover Smith, Marky Ryan Landrum, Makaydence Landrum, Makynzli Travis, Manuel Savala, Zachery Collins, Xavier Collins; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorials are suggested to the Coleman Senior Citizens Center, 916 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Pallbearers will be George Savala, Jimmy Lopez, Kemp Slayton, Donnie Guerra, Harry Guerra, and Ray Guerra.
