CintronEscapePatrolCarA man escaped custody over the weekend when he broke a window in a police patrol car, climbed out of the vehicle, and took off running according to police reports.

It all went down around 1:45 p.m. The incident began when a Brownwood Police officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle which was displaying an expired registration the report states.

It turned out the driver, Luis Rivera Cintron, didn’t have a valid driver’s license, so the officer arrested him.

Once inside the patrol car, somehow, Cintrol was able to get one hand out of the handcuffs which helped him escape.  On the way to the jail, police reports state Cintron kicked out the back passenger side window of the patrol unit, jumped out while the patrol car was moving at a speed of about 26 mph, and fled on foot near the intersection of Austin Avenue and Coggin. The officer brought the patrol car to a stop; however the street was wet causing him to slide into a curb, damaging the front left wheel of the patrol unit.

CintronLuisThe officer chased him on foot through a few business parking lots then into a residential area where he lost sight of the suspect.

A report was filed for Escape While Arrested/Confined, Criminal Mischief greater than or equal to $500 and less than $1500, Evading Arrest/Detention, Theft greater than or equal $50 less than $500, Failure to Identify and Driving While License Invalid.

Police officials state that there is now a warrant for his arrest on the charges.

“This is considered a serious thing, he’s still a wanted man,” stated Brownwood Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller.  “We want to get him off the streets and use the video to put pressure to get him behind bars.”

Cintron is pictured above.  Please see the video below of the escape:
