Brownwood News – Mr. Hershel F. “Bill” Peirson will turn 105 years old this Saturday, October 19, 2019.  Wednesday morning, at the Brownwood Senior Center, he was presented the World War II Victory Medal by members of the local VFW Post and Ladies Auxiliary.  Brown County Judge, Dr. Paul Lilly, pinned the medal on the very uniform jacket Mr. Peirson wore when he was honorably discharged from service at the end of the war.  James Masters, Brown County Veteran’s Service Officer, read the citation.

“The World War II Victory Medal is awarded to Technical Sergeant Bill Peirson for service between 7 December 1941 and 31 December 1946.  Technical Sergeant Peirson served in the Army Air Forces in England, France and Germany from 1942  to 1946 in which he was then honorably discharged.  His service in World War II is a testament to him and his generation who took it upon themselves to defeat the axis forces.  Signed into law, Harry S. Truman, President, United States, Commander-in-Chief, United States Military Forces.”

Asked about how he felt being honored, Mr. Peirson responded “I can’t express my gratitude that I have for the people that honored me today.”  He shared that, while in the military, he attended three different schools for ammunition and was stationed in San Angelo for a portion of the time.
