Brownwood News – Brown County Commissioners met Monday morning, July 8, 2019 with all members present.   Judge Paul Lilly presided over the meeting.

Item 7-E on the agenda was discussion and action regarding FEMA funding for Commissioner Larry Traweek in Precinct 4.   Commissioner Traweek needs to pay contractors hired to repair numerous roads damaged by flooding.

Commissioners voted unanimously to transfer $1.2 million out of the General Fund into the Contingency Fund to pay contractors, money which will be replaced when FEMA funding arrives.

The discussion leading up to the vote involved Commissioner Traweek, Commissioner Wayne Shaw and Judge Lilly in a lively exchange.  Commissioner Shaw stated his precinct missed out on more than $2 million dollars in FEMA funding, blaming Emergency Management Coordinator, David Creed, for failing to submit timely paperwork through the FEMA portal.  Shaw went as far as saying the coordinator should be terminated for not doing his job.

Precinct 3 Road Foreman, Jeff Mobley, said FEMA will return to inspect more damaged roads in Brown County this Thursday morning.

In other business:

• Commissioners certified and accepted $8,500 of new revenue from TrueCore Lease to be placed in the Juvenile Justice Building Expense Account.
• Commissioners renewed the Interlocal Agreement on 911 service with the West Central Texas Council of Governments.
• Commissioners approved $17,033 to upgrade 13 computers in the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
• Approved repairs to the Brown County 4-H van
• Took no action on the Burn Ban, meaning the Burn Ban remains off at this time
• Approved an application to install a private water line, County Road 411, by Brookesmith SUD.
