CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department today for the month of August along with year-to-date numbers for 2009 and 2010.  Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a new program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Although the  monthly number of total crimes for August is down 14% as compared to July’s total number of crimes, the total of cases cleared were down by about 6.7%.  Crimes by category were down with the exception of Robbery which was up 1 case from last month.

According to the year-to-date crime statistics, January 1-August 31, 2010 is showing a decrease of about 3% as compared to the same period in 2009.  The current year-to-date statistics show a decrease in all categories of crimes except robbery, assault, burglary of a habitation and burglary of a building.  The bright spot in this month’s statistics is the year-to-date number of crimes solved or cleared, which has increased by nearly 8% as compared to last year.

See below for the current month of August & the previous month, July 2010 stats along with tables of year-to-date 2010 numbers and 2009 stats of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
