Written by Ben Cox – The Brownwood Education Foundation is now selling tickets to their third annual Lion Pride Gala, with the theme of Louisiana Saturday Night this year.

Returning home to perform is Brownwood’s own Van Wilkes, accompanied by Josh Smith. Perini Ranch will cater the evenings meal, and silent and live auctions will raise funds for the Foundation.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. on October 20th, with several events to follow. This marks the second year in a row for the Gala to be held at the Brownwood Regional Airport. Last years theme was “A 40’s Affair” and the 2016 theme was “Sunset on the Serengeti”, held at the Tolson Game Ranch at Lake Brownwood.

Honored this year as Lion Legacy Award recipients are Mrs Betty Martin and her late husband Dr Don Martin. Former Brownwood mayor and BHS graduate Bert V Massey II will be awarded Alumni of the Year.

Previous recipients of the Lion Legacy Award are Frances Stovall and Larry Mathis. Alumni of the year has been also awarded to Paul Waldrop and John D Harkey, Jr.

There are a limited number of many tickets available, and the cost of each admission is $100. A table sponsorship costs $1000, and both can be purchased online at supportbisd.com.

This is the primary fundraising opportunity for the Brownwood Education Foundation, a 501(C)3 organization which supports BISD teachers by providing grants to educators who are leading the way by exploring new and exciting ways to educate our children.

The foundation also awards teachers for their outstanding impact on area youth, as well as honors district staff for making a difference in the lives of those very educators.

Sponsors for this years Gala are: Wright Asphalt, Citizens National Bank, First Financial Group of America, Haynes Law Firm, Hendrick Health System, KOHLER, SFE/Southwest Food Excellence, Texas Bank, Vulcan Materials Company, Waldrop Construction.
