Brownwood News – The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a phone scam where a man pretending to be a UPS driver is asking residents if they are inside their homes.

According to an interoffice memo released by the Sheriff’s Office, an investigator was contacted by a UPS representative regarding some concerning phone calls. The representative explained the local UPS location had received two phone calls from concerned citizens regarding an individual acting as a UPS driver, asking if the residents were at home.

According to the callers, the suspect spoke with an unidentified accent and said his name was “David.” The man told the residents he had a package to deliver which required a signature. He then asked if anyone was at home.

One of the residents knew the caller was not their usual UPS driver and began questioning “David.” The suspect immediately ended the phone call.

UPS advised the Sheriff’s Office their organization does not operate in the manner demonstrated in the suspicious phone calls. Nor does the local UPS have a driver by the name of “David.” The calls did come from an unknown number.

The Sheriff’s Office wants the community to be aware of this potential scam.
