A memorial service for Velma Long, age 76, of Early, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 29, 2018 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.

Velma Gray Flowers Long was born January 10, 1942 to Sidney “Gray” and Martha “Luree” Dawkins Flowers in De Leon and went home to be with our Lord on September 18, 2018 in Early, Texas.
Velma was always such a kind and loving person and was a joy to be around from the time she was a child. She grew up in a small farming community and attended Noodle Horn School District and was a member of Annity Baptist Church. A few years later she met the first loves of her life when she had her children Russell “Rusty” Perkins and Brenda Perkins- Murray.
She met the love of her life, Larry Long and they were married on August 8, 1991 and made 27 years of loving memories together, traveling and dining out and listening to old time country music. They both shared a deep passion and love for the Dallas COWBOYS and NASCAR.
Velma had a love for crocheting and spending time with her husband, kids, grandchildren or “her babies” as she called them, and her beloved cats Scooty and Pud. Before retiring, Velma worked for Early School District in the kitchen department.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney “Gray” and Martha “Luree” Flowers, her brother, Truman Flowers, two children, and her Great Grandson, Jase Ray Edwards.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Long, Son Rusty Perkins and Wife Stacy. Daughter Brenda Murray, Son – Ricky Long and wife Marci. Her 6 Grandchildren, Jessica Edwards and husband Brandon, Jeremy Perkins and wife Taylor, Rj Perkins, Kendall Theis, James Theis, and Amber Theis. 8 great grandchildren: Gracie, Emma, Cassidy, Gannon, Ryan, Bradly, Gordon and Katelynn.  Sister Dorothy and husband Eulan.

Velma was a joy to everyone and never met a stranger. Everyone that ever met Velma, loved her, and she loved them. She had a beautiful spirit and a giving heart. There will never be enough time or words to describe what an amazing lady, wife, sister, mom, Nanny and friend that she was. She will be missed and cherished so much and we will keep her spirit and memory alive.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choosing. Velma was a faithful donator to the American heart association and the Veterans.
