Brownwood News – Texas Department of Transportation’s annual sealcoat project is well underway and will move into and around the City of Brownwood on Monday afternoon, August 6th.

During this project, the contractor Northeastern Pavers will apply a layer of liquid asphalt which is topped with small rocks to area roadways.  This preventative maintenance project helps to seal cracks and provides a new wearing surface, prolonging the life of the roadway while increasing traction.

Brownwood area roadways included in work zones this week are as follows:

FM 2524 (Austin Avenue):  Willis Street to Brooks Street
FM 2376 (4th Street):  Asbury to FM 45 (the Access Road)
FM 3064:  US 377 to FM 2376
FM 45:  US 377 to the S FM 45 intersection at the National Guard Armory
US 377:  FM 45 to the McCulloch County line

Motorist should be cautious and slow their speed as various lane closures will occur.  Please allow additional time for travel in these areas.  It is anticipated the work in the Brownwood area will be completed by the end of the week.

Once work in Brownwood is complete, the project will move into McCulloch County, south of Winchell, to work on a two mile portion of US 377 and a portion of FM 765 from US 377 to the San Saba County line.

The annual sealcoat project includes roadways in Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Lampasas, Mills, McCulloch, San Saba and Stephens counties.  The entire project is anticipated to be completed by the end of August.

As the project progresses through other counties, notification will be given to the public through additional news releases and posts to TxDOT Brownwood District’s local Twitter account (@TxDOTBWD).
