Written by Amanda Coers – The Brown County Commissioners met at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 11th, in the Brown County Courthouse to discuss a number of items posted on the agenda.

After approval of the minutes from the previous meeting, the Commissioners discussed the Burn Ban for the county. Three out of the four Commissioners agreed it would be prudent to place a ban on burning due to weather conditions for the area. The Burn Ban is now in effect. 

The Commissioners then discussed approval for the sale of fireworks during the Fourth of July period. 

“We must before June 5th of each year adopt an order if we are to regulate the sale of fireworks,” Judge West explained. He then asked the Commissioners for their opinion on the sale of fireworks, all agreed it would be acceptable to allow the sale. No action was taken and there is no prohibition on the sale of fireworks for the county during Fourth of July. 

Brown County Sheriff Vance Hill spoke with the Commissioners to receive authorization to accept a $100 cash donation for his department. 

“I recently received in the mail a donation from Sandra Childers,” the Sheriff said. Commissioners approved accepting the donation for his department.
