Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department today for the month of July along with year-to-date numbers for 2009 and 2010.  Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a new program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Monthly statistics show a slight increase in total crimes by about 2.5%; however, number of crimes that were solved or closed was 32.5% for the month, which is an increase from previous two months.

According to the year-to-date crime statistics, 2010 continues to shows a very slight increase in number of cases in each offense category with the exceptions of larceny theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.  In comparison, the monthly numbers in each category of crime also show a slight increase with the exception of assault which was down 8% from June’s numbers.

Compared to 2009, year-to-date totals of crimes cleared (closed cases) were up as of July 2010 nearly 7%.  The total numbers of crimes reported in 2010 year-to-date were also up less than 1.7% as compared to 2009 year-to-date numbers.

See below for the current month of July & the previous month, June 2010 stats along with tables of year-to-date 2010 numbers and 2009 stats of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
